How to Dual Boot Kali with Windows

Kali Linux Dual Boot with Windows

Installing Kali alongside a Windows installation can be quite useful. However, you need to exercise caution during the setup process. First, make sure that you’ve backed up any important data on your Windows installation. Since you’ll be modifying your hard drive, you’ll want to store this backup on external media. Once you’ve completed the backup, we recommend you peruse Kali Linux Hard Disk Install, which explains the normal procedure for a basic Kali install.
In our example, we will be installing Kali Linux alongside an installation of Windows 7, which is currently taking up 100% of the disk space in our computer. We will start by resizing our current Windows partition to occupy less space and then proceed to install Kali Linux in the newly-created empty partition.
Download Kali Linux and either burn the ISO to DVD, or prepare a USB stick with Kali linux Live as the installation medium. If you do not have a DVD or USB port on your computer, check out the Kali Linux Network Install. Ensure you have:
  • Minimum of 20 GB free disk space on Windows
  • CD-DVD / USB boot support

Preparing for the Installation

  1. Download Kali Linux.
  2. Burn The Kali Linux ISO to DVD or copy Kali Linux Live to USB.
  3. Ensure that your computer is set to boot from CD / USB in your BIOS.

Dual Boot Installation Procedure

  1. To start your installation, boot with your chosen installation medium. You should be greeted with the Kali Boot screen. Select Live, and you should be booted into the Kali Linux default desktop.
  2. Now launch the gparted program. We’ll use gparted to shrink the existing Windows partition to give us enough room to install Kali Linux

    dual-boot-kali-01
  3. Select your Windows partition. Depending on your system, it will usually be the second, larger partition. In our example, there are two partitions; the first is the System Recovery partition, and Windows is actually installed in /dev/sda2. Resize your Windows partition and leave enough space (20 GB minimum) for the Kali installation.

    dual-boot-kali-03
  4. Once you have resized your Windows partition, ensure you “Apply All Operations” on the hard disk. Exit gparted and reboot.

Kali Linux Installation Procedure

  1. The installation procedure from this point onwards is similar to a Kali Linux Hard Disk install, until the point of the partitioning, where you need to select “Guided – use the largest continuous free space” that you created earlier with gparted.

    dual-boot-kali-09
  2. Once the installation is done, reboot. You should be greeted with a GRUB boot menu, which will allow you to boot either into Kali or Windows.

Security Measures You Need Online

The online world is a dangerous place. As can be seen from the catastrophic Equifax breach in the U.S., we’re only a hack away from having all our personal information stolen. The chances or identity theft are higher than ever, and if you don’t protect yourself, you’re asking for trouble.
Equifax is just one example. Think also of Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Jr., and the countless others who have had emails, photos, and online activity stolen and exposed. There is a lot that can go wrong if you leave your web presence unprotected.
As such, there is a surge in popularity of online security tools. Antiviruses have for a long time been par for the course, but here are the 3 types of security measures you need online now.
1. A reliable VPN
A virtual private network (VPN) was until recently pretty niche. Those who knew what they were doing – developers, software designers, your average geek – created or subscribed to a VPN. Now, however, everyone agrees that a VPN is the least you can do for your online security. Using the internet without one is irresponsible. Not only does a VPN hide your location, but it encrypts your data, too.
One reason you might not yet have subscribed to a VPN is because they cost money. FIrstly, the price is worth it. Secondly, if you truly cannot afford one, research the best free VPN services. The downside to even the reliable free VPNs is that they usually cap your bandwidth.
2. A password manager (with a good reputation)
Password managers are important for a number of reasons. They prevent you from using the same password for everything. They give you strong passwords without you having the impossible task of remembering them. And they stop you from typing out your passwords over and over again. This is important, as hackers can get control of your keyboard and record everything you type. Automatically filling fields is actually safer.
You may be wary of using a password manager, for fear that it could be hacked and all your passwords stolen. While there is a chance of that happening (and it’s happened before), find one with a good reputation, as well as procedures in place to protect you even in the case of a breach.
3. Vet every email
This should be a given by now, but unfortunately, many people still fall for email scams. They are not all as transparent as a Nigerian prince asking for money. Phishing scams are what you really have to look out for. Scammers are good at creating a landing page that looks just like a real company’s website. When you enter your login details, they capture them and quickly put them to use. This can be extremely harmful if they get hold of your online banking details. Your social media presence could also suffer in the wake of a successful phishing scam. And you definitely do not want anyone to get control of your Google account – with countless information that could put you at risk.

iPhone App Development: What’s New For Developers In iOS 11

A curiosity ends with the introduction of iOS 11 on 5th of June 2017. It is the next-generation version of iOS. This update takes the best and most advanced operating system and turns it up to 11. But with iOS 11 was released to the public on 19 September 2017 and since then, there have been two distinct updates to iOS 11.02 which fixed the earpiece noise during phone calls; and the major iOS 11.1. iOS 10 was an operating system update that largely ignored the iPad, but Apple made up for it in iOS 11 with a range of iPad only features that cater to users who want to use the tablet as a full PC replacement.
File Explorer became more manageable
The new Files app in iOS 11 is a system-wide feature; it allows cloud document management apps to register as file providers and display their cloud-based contents inside of the app along with iCloud Drive files. In addition, apps that work with files can display a new system controller that will let users pick a file from a modal file browser. The Files app has become more organized, with this good improvement, a search function for stored contents becomes quick and easy on an iOS device. The files management is automatic and very helpful to pro iOS users.

ARKit
One of the big surprises at WWDC ’17 was that Apple is entering the augmented reality (AR) game in a huge way with the introduction of ARKit. This new framework lets developers create AR experiences in their apps more easily since the framework can handle accurately tracking the real-world objects in the frame, helping apps with the placement of virtual objects for more visual realism.
ARKit can also automatically detect horizontal planes like tables and floors and can estimate the lighting and provide values to apps in order to help to light virtual objects for a more realistic look.
Drag and Drop
Apple’s new Drag and Drop for iPad is a new tool that, like it sounds, allows users to move items across different apps in the same way to what we experience on our computers. But applied to the touchscreen, Apple created a couple of nifty sub-features. For one, users can grab a piece of content by pressing and holding on it — and then it becomes pinned to your finger. Another wrinkle, you can grab multiple pieces of content using different fingers. Apple has yet to enable the feature on iPhone, though it reportedly exists and is not accessible via the user interface, so expect that Apple may eventually give developers access to it.
CoreML – a powerful feature of iOS 11
Take a maximum benefit of Core ML a new foundational machine learning framework used across Apple products, including Siri, Camera, and QuickType. Core ML delivers brightly fast performance with easy integration of machine learning models enabling you to build apps with intelligent new features using just a few lines of code.
Visual Inertial Odometry – VIO
What is VIO? A combination of Core Motion & Camera vision lights the VIO that Visual Inertial Odometry. VIO analyzes camera data (“visual”) to identify landmarks it can use to measure (“odometry”) how the device is moving in space relative to the landmarks it sees. Motion sensor (“inertial”) data is used to fill in the blanks in providing complementary information that the device can compare with what it’s seeing to better understand how it’s moving in space.
MusicKit
Since Apple Music was uncovered at WWDC ’15, it has become a hit, with more than 27 million users worldwide. The online streaming music service has been unlocked and become available to all developers with MusicKit.
This new framework available in iOS 11 lets developers access and download data from Apple’s servers about songs and music available through the service, as well as play users’ Apple Music songs, playlists, and special content through their own apps. In addition, MusicKit provides a way for developers to present a join screen if a user isn’t already a member of Apple Music; developers can even enter their Apple Music affiliate program code to earn commissions on each membership purchased in their apps.
This conversation never goes end. The developers can utilize the maximum benefits to create better user experience. iOS 11 has become a new beginning for the developers, especially for iPhone App Development. So just enjoy the new features and produce mind-blowing apps using iOS 11.

How to Unlock Modems to Work With any Network

The following tutorial will highlight how to make #unlock #modem #unlockmodem #modemunlocker your Huawei data card modem work with any available SIM Card network - exactly like a Universal Modem. Most times the modem we buy these days are tied or pre-programmed to work with a single network. Could be MTN, GLO, Airtel, Etiasalat or any other. But this is too rigid and gives not freedom users deserve. Which means if you need to make a data subscription switch, you start buying a new modem all over again. That's not sweet.

Unlock Modem.jpg
Unlock Modem.jpg (5.82 KiB) Viewed 122565 times
Scenario
If your modem comes bundled with network A, and you wish to use other networks B, C, and D, if you attempt replacing SIM card of original A with any of other SIMs (BCD), the system will prompt a message, requesting an unlock code as it has detected an ALIEN NETWORK SIM CARD.
That unlock code is the secret to unlocking your modem.

How To
1. Determine your Modem type/brand (Huawei, ZTE etc) (NOTE: The tutorial works for all modems, but the softwares needed differ).

2. Determine your modem's IMEI Number (This is a long - about 15-digit - all numbers code printed on, or inside the cover of your modem. Learn more about IMEI Numbers here. Now write down your IMEI Number correctly.

3. Download the unlocking software. This is the deal. Download software for unlocking Huawei Modems here.https://www.bestnaija.com/huawei-modem-mtn-fastlink-software-download-t1973 For other models, we may need other sources which I will supply later.

4. Install the software and run it. Upon running it, it demands for the IMEI Number we determined in #2 earlier. OK, it now generates your special unlock code from the IMEI Number. This is between 4-6 digits. Copy this and head back to the first scenario.

5. Insert an alien SIM card into your modem, and then into your computer, and it demands for the unlock code generated in #4 above. Supply this, and you are good!

Results
The repercussion of these steps is that you have converted your modem to a universal modem. And you can use both the native as well as all other alien networks. What a relief, what a freedom.

NOTE: To work properly now with some networks may now require some simple New Profile Management configurations, like creating a new profile.

On the modem interface, go to Tools, then Profile Management, then New. Insert the new network's settings viz APN, username and password. Then Save. Then from the connect window, ensure you select the new profile/network and connect.

How to edit Android applications using ApkTool

There are instances when we want to make few modifications in an Android app. You may not be liking the default color of the app. And, you want to change it to the color of your choice.
There are Android apps that can do it for you. However, limitations of such apps forces you to find another way. Well, you can decompile, recompile and sign apk files with the help of your PC.
There is a tool for reverse engineering Android apk files and its called “ApkTool“. With this tool, you can decode any Android app and make modifications to it.
Most of the parts of Android apps are written in Java. So you will first need Java Development Kit installed on your PC to run this tool. Once you have Java installed on your PC, go ahead with the following steps to modify Android applications using ApkTool.

Modify Android applications using ApkTool

Step 1: Create a folder with the name apktool on your desktop.
Step 2: Add apktool.bat file (Windows wrapper script) to this folder. Right click on the link and save it to the folder.
Step 3: Download the latest version of ApkTool from here.
Step 4: Move ApkTool to the same folder that you have created in the step 1.
So your ApkTool is ready after this.
Step 5: Move the apk file of the Android app inside the same folder.
Step 6: Press shift and right click in the folder to open a command window.
Step 7: Install framework for the app which you want to decompile. You can do so by the following command.
Step 8: Decompile the app with the following command
Step 9: Edit the app files now. You will get all app files inside a separate folder in the same folder as above.
Step 10: Recompile the apk file using the command mentioned below.
Do not enter .apk at the end
Step 11: Your new apk file can be found inside “dist” folder which will be created in the app folder.
Now you will need tool to sign the apk file which you have recompiled.
Step 12: Create another folder with the name signapk on your desktop.
Step 13: Download SignApk and extract it to the folder which you have created in step 12.
Step 14: Move the new apk file which you got in step 11 to this folder.
Step 15: Open command window inside signapk folder and sign the new apk with the following command.
A new signed apk will be created inside signapk folder. This is your final modded/edited apk. You can rename this new signed apk.
Move this new signed apk file to your Android device and install the modded app. You can not install apk file without signing it as Android won’t let you do that.
When a developer creates an apk file with the help of Android Studio, the apk is signed by default. So while you decompile and recompile apk file, you will have to do this extra step in order to install it on Android device.
